Splatoon 3’s Potato Chip Fest | Everything You Need to Know

Splatoon fans in Japan are no strangers to promotion based Spatfests, and the Potato Chip Fest is no different. What exactly is this? Who did Nintendo partner up with? Which team won? We go over all of this and more in the video. Let’s take a look.

Background
The Potato Chip Fest is the third major Splatfest of 2024, and the third collaborative fest of that the game in Japan since release. The event kicked off on March 23, 2024 at 9:00 a.m. Japan time and ran until Monday, March 25 at 9:00 a.m. This coincided with the March 2024 Splatfest that was running in other territories about musical instruments. For this Japan exclusive event, Nintendo teamed up with snack maker Calbee and their popular potato chip lineup. The tri-color question which chips they like from the following flavors:
  • Lightly Salted
  • Consomme
  • Salted Seaweed
Additional Promotion
The in-game shirts featured nearly identical chip package designs to what is found in the real world but with some Splatoon-language. But that’s not all. A few lucky fans will be able to nab real world versions of the shirts through a giveaway with the purchase of Calbee branded chips. 600 shirts, 200 for each team, will be given out to fans via lottery (and registration) from March to July 16, 2024.
Special packing featuring Splatoon 3 will also be on the store shelves in Japan from March 2024. The chips themselves are the same, but they will now just have a small Splatoon 3 logo in the upper left hand corner of the package. On top of these regular chips with special branding, Calbee has also released a brand new type of chip on the market - the Ikasumi Iro no Consommé Punch, or Squid Ink Color Consommé Punch. These have “ink splats” on the actual chips themselves, but the flavor hasn't changed. I’ve managed to spot these at my local 7-Eleven but have yet to see the other branded chips anywhere.
Last but not least, Nintendo ran a special promotion in collaboration with some large electronic stores in Tokyo, Osaka and Kawasaki, Kanagawa. Purchases of ¥3,000 (a little under $20 USD) or more on Splatoon related products at the stores would net fans a bag of chips and an original sticker featuring art commemorating the Splatfest.
