MLB The Show 22 Coming To Switch, Ohtani Cover Athlete

More baseball love is on the way to the Nintendo Switch, and this time from a long awaited MLB series. MLB The Show 22 is set to hit the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S | X and the Nintendo Switch on April 5. Japanese once-in-a-lifetime sensation Shohei Ohtani will be the cover athlete for the game this year. Details on all versions of the game are still forthcoming, but the game will feature cross platform play and progression.
News of Ohtani becoming the cover athlete for the game has appeared on Japanese morning TV programs and news outlets that typically don’t cover video games. The last Japanese athlete to become the cover athlete for a major sports game was Rui Hachimura in NBA 2K22 with the athlete featured on Japanese physical versions of the game.
The Switch version of MLB The Show seems to have been in the works for a few years. When the MLB The Show Twitter account announced that the series would be coming to non-PlayStation platforms in late 2019, Nintendo of America responded to the tweet with a baseball emoji. Now that baseball emoji has transformed into a baseball video game on Nintendo’s popular console.
