A handful of Game Boy and Game Boy Advance titles have been released on the Switch today, Wednesday, July 8 (Tuesday, July 7 in some territories). While the releases are identical across all regions, Japan gets one exclusive oddball RPG that has never left the country. Here’s what was released:
English Title | Japanese Title | Platform
- Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3 | Super Mario Land 3: Wario Land | Game Boy
- Fortified Zone | Ikari no Yōsai | Game Boy
- Sword of Hope II | Selection II: Ankoku no Fūin | Game Boy
- Dr. Mario & Puzzle League | Dr. Mario & Panel de Pon | Game Boy Advance
- Tomato Adventure (Japan exclusive) | Game Boy Advance
Tomato Adventure is a Nintendo published title developed by Alphadream, the studio responsible for the Mario & Luigi series of RPG titles. It’s clear from screenshots or videos that the game clearly influenced some of the design choices in subsequent titles from the studio.
Almost all of the titles released today have previously hit either the Wii U or 3DS Virtual Console services in the past. The only exception is the combo Dr. Mario & Puzzle League which is seeing a release for the first time since it originally came out in 2005. You can see Japanese and English trailers for all of the games below.
It’s been a few months since we’ve last seen Game Boy or GBA releases on Nintendo Classics. The last update for the GBA came in March with Mario vs. Donkey Kong, while the Game Boy lineup was last updated in early February with Yoshi and Balloon Kid.
