The world famous plumber is 40 and in addition to games, Nintendo is celebrating in numerous ways. The September 12 Nintendo Direct gave fans a new look at the upcoming Mario movie - The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. Nintendo and Illumination confirmed that all of the mainline actors will reprise their roles in the film. The movie releases on April 3, 2026 in North America and April 24, 2026 in Japan. Super Mario fans in Japan will have two other ways to enjoy Mario’s 40th anniversary. The Nintendo Museum in Kyoto will offer visitors a special play ticket featuring the 40th anniversary logo from September 13. A special limited-time lighting display will also be available from Wednesday, December 3 until Monday, April 27, 2026. Visitors are free to take photos with it throughout the day.
On a completely different note, Miyamoto shared that Nintendo will be a “Platinum Partner” for the Kyoto Marathon. Taking place on Sunday, February 15, the red Nintendo banner logo will be present on all race bibs used in the race. Entry applications are open until September 22.
