Despite the company’s best efforts, the online My Nintendo Store is once again getting absolutely hammered with traffic as fans try to complete their pre-orders for the Switch 2. The Japanese Nintendo Customer Service account posted the following:
“The My Nintendo Store is experiencing heavy traffic, so we are limiting the number of people who can use the site. You will be guided in order, so please wait in the virtual waiting room until it is your turn. The screen will automatically change then this occurs.”
A follow up post said the following:
“Please note that if you are direct to the virtual waiting room, you will be limited to 15 minutes of waiting. Please complete your purchase within 15 minutes. *There will be no notification to show you when it is your turn to head to the purchase page, so please keep an eye on that yourself.”
After getting past the room, many users are experiencing the store site just not responding. I’ve tried on both mobile and desktop only to have the same results. I initially got in around 12:25 p.m. (JST) and was able to start setting up my order. After leaving the window briefly on mobile, I was kicked out and had to start over. Fans that won the lottery will be able to get the system itself, however, the accessories are another story. They will only be available until the pre-order stock runs out, which is likely one of the reasons leading to a surge in traffic. The purchase period for the console runs from today until May 12.
