The latest in the long-running franchise, Famitsu reviews Like A Dragon, and says it eclipses the barrier of Yakuza 0 and Yakuza 7 with over 80 hours of its manly playtime. Famitsu makes comparisons to both previously stated Yakuza titles in positive ways. Check out their full review in the link above.

#9 - Palworld Goes On Sale

News - Home Console Game - Xbox One - PC Game - Steam - Xbox Series X

Appearing again, the initial announcement release article for Palworld makes it back onto the top 10 this week again, and with no shock. The similarity to Pokémon is apparent and has been making a lot of, both, noise and sales. This article covers the details of Palworld, with over 100 different types of pals, and the gameplay style. You can also hear the guys talk about the game on the latest episode of The Famicast podcast here

#8 - Palworld Sells Over 3 Million Copies in 40 Hours

News - Home Console Game - Xbox One - PC Game - Steam - Xbox Series X

Another appearance by a Palworld article. This article focuses more on the sale numbers within the first 40 hours of release on Steam. The total amount of sales? Only 3 million units. Palworld is doing amazing numbers, both sales-wise and positive comments and reviews on Steam, with over 19,000 positive reviews as-of publishing of Famitsu’s article.

#7 - Undertale Symphonic Concert

News - Home Console Game - PS4 - Switch - Xbox One - PC Game - Steam - Xbox Series X - Press Release

Undertale was an incredibly popular game when released in 2015, and 2018 on the Switch in Japan. Even now, Undertale has reappeared every now and then, this time with a symphonic concert at Tokyo Opera City. This concert has four shows, over two days in March (March 9 and March 16) and all four shows will feature a different setlist of songs. Check out the article for pricing and the setlists.

#6 - Oshi no Ko and Family Mart Collaboration

Entertainment

Oshi no Ko has a new collaboration with Japanese convenience store chain, Family Mart. Throughout the campaign, from January 23 to February 5, customers can purchase an A5-sized folder, featuring the characters Ruby, Kana Arima and Mem-cho who appear dressed in red fox attire, as a green tanuki and a Fin amily Mart limited edition beef sukiyaki udon attire. From January 31 onwards, five different types of keychains will also go on sale, and from March 20, three different types of miniature clear stands will go on sale as well. Check out the article for pictures of all the goods on offer.

#5 - Genshin Impact and Sushiro Collaboration Announcement

News

Another article appearing for a second week in a row is the sneaky Genshin Impact collaboration that Sushiro slowly announced in an interesting way. Over a span of hours, the Sushiro Twitter account slowly showed symbols, which some people slowly recognized as the loading screen symbols from Genshin Impact. Shortly after the final icon was posted, the collaboration was announced.

#4 - Super Mario Roomwear from Gelato Pique Collaboration

Entertainment - Press Release

Home and roomwear brand Gelato Pique has collaborated with Nintendo’s Super Mario to bring a total of 41 different clothing and goods for release from January 26. Although comfortable looking, the price of a pull-over top and long pants set comes in at ¥14,960 (approx. $100.91 USD) for women and ¥15,950 (approx. $107.59 USD) for men. There are also cardigans, onesies for babies and long t-shirts, all with different designs available. Check out the article for a full look at the collection.

#3 - Pokémon Company Gives Official Statement Over Palworld

News

With the success of Palworld and it's closer-than-comfort Pal character designs that are almost similar to certain Pokémons, The Pokémon Company gives word that they are investigating whether there are any copyright infringements with intellectual property or assets. Time will tell what will come of this, whether positive or negative.

#2 - Sword Art Online Progressive Terrestrial Broadcast

Anime

Famitsu readers really like their Sword Art, as this has taken 2nd in the weekly rankings. Regular broadcast of Aria of a Starless Night was broadcast on Fuji TV on January 20 at 12:55AM. The sequel, Scherzo of Deep Night aired afterwards, from 2:15AM. The back-to-back airing was enough to ensure a high place on this list.

#1 - Sushiro and Genshin Impact Collaboration Set to Begin

News

Alongside the Japanese live cast of Genshin Impact Version 4.4 information, the Sushiro collaboration was also announced (alongside the sneaky Twitter posts). Characters Goro and Kokomi Sangonomiya, adored in red, will be seen within Sushiro restaurants from February onwards. Also appearing within stores will be some new and original menu items, as well as goods available for purchase.

Palworld is definitely getting a lot of heat, but that is to be expected with its Pokémon with guns gameplay. With only being available on PC and Xbox, I don’t expect it to be released on the Switch at any time whatsoever in the future.

That is this week of FamiKatsu, check back in next week to see the latest in collaborations in Japan.
