It’s been a bit of a wait for Mario fans in Japan, but The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is finally out starting today, Friday, April 24. Nintendo has also prepped a few extras for moviegoers via the Nintendo Today app with an online check-in, digital photo frames, physical merch at theaters and more.
Checking in with Nintendo Today is relatively simple. After going to the Mario Galaxy Movie portal, you simply have to scan the poster for the film that is located inside your theater. From there, you have access to eight photo frames for pictures that you can take inside the theater. These can be viewed on the calendar event section of the app. Checking in will also give you access to eight smartphone wallpapers with designs from the movie. The theater where you checked in at will be recorded as an event in the calendar and can be viewed at any time.
Additionally, physical merch will also be available at theaters. Fans that check out the movie around the release period will receive a pack of five cards based on the digital ones that were distributed via Nintendo Today. Other initiatives, such as a special “Super Mario Theater,” Mario & Yoshi appearing as guests, and concession bonus items will also be available.
If you’re visiting Japan and would like to see the movie in English, be sure to check out our guide so that you know which theater to visit. You can read more about that here.
