The Pokémon Company has come up with a clever way to pull in fans for the 30th anniversary of the series, this time with music. Pokémon Red & Pokémon Blue Game Music Collection: Game Boy Jukebox was unveiled during the Pokémon Presents broadcast. This little device looks just like the original Game Boy and features 45 different cartridges containing various tracks from the original game as well as changeable “screens” depending on the cart that is inserted. Thankfully the carts won’t be sold individually or in blind bags - the entire set is included with the purchase. The Game Boy Jukebox will retail for $69.99 in the US and ¥9,900 in Japan. The Japanese version features Pokémon Red and Green. You can see a trailer for the device in Japanese and English below.
Given the popularity of the series, this is something that you might want to try to pick up as early as you can. The English Pokémon Center website has a limit of one per person. Over here in Japan, a lottery for the Game Boys will be held from today, Saturday, February 28 until March 4 at the Pokémon Center Online and then on the My Nintendo Store Online from Monday, March 2 until March 9. For the record, the overall naming convention is a bit different for the device in Japan. This is called the, “Pokémon Aka (Red) ・Midori (Green) GAME MUSIC COLLECTION with GAME BOY Gata Saisei (reproduction) Machine.” Anyway, good luck to those of you trying to pick one of these up out there!
