Hamster, responsible for bringing over 500 classic arcade titles to modern platforms via the Arcade Archives series, is kicking off a new initiative with console titles. Console Archives was revealed during the Nintendo Direct and the first two titles are available now on the Nintendo Switch 2 and coming later to PlayStation 5. The first titles are Cool Boarders (¥1,200 / $11.99) and Ninja Gaiden II: The Dark Sword of Chaos (¥800 / $7.99). In addition to these, two other titles have been confirmed for the series with the Famicom version of Doraemon and Sonic Wings Special (PlayStation, Saturn). You can see the trailer for the new releases below.
The Arcade Archive series has been a consistent source of releases of old games since 2014. Given the work that Hamster has done to bring many well known and not so well known titles to modern platforms, it will be interesting to see what they with console games in the future with what is essentially a new “Virtual Console.”
