Rebranded “Nintendo Store” App, Formerly My Nintendo, Released Outside of Japan

A Nintendo Store smartphone app, formerly known as the My Nintendo app in Japan, has finally seen a release outside of the land of the rising sun today, Wednesday, November 5. While little more than the layout and name has changed for fans with Japanese My Nintendo accounts via an update today, gamers in English speaking territories are finally able to get their hands on this. On top of front and center access to the My Nintendo Store for digital and physical purchases, the app also features a news feed, games from your wish list, GPS check-in functionality for events and locations and a comprehensive look at your play time across the Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, Wii U and Nintendo 3DS.

It should be noted that Nintendo stopped tracking Wii U and Nintendo 3DS playtime as of February 2020, so any game sessions you have after that point will not be included for those systems. From this section of the app, you can see your most recently played games, the games you’ve played over the past week, and then everything else below. Gameplay time is listed in increments of 15 minutes with anything less being listed as “A few minutes.” You are able to filter your entire library based on recently played titles, the first time you played them (based on the year), longest play time and by console. When going through games in the “longest playtime,” games are blocked into the following:
  • A Few Minutes
  • 1 Hour or More
  • 10 Hours or More
  • 50 Hours or More
  • 100 Hours or More
  • 500 Hours or More
I don’t have any games over 1,000 hours, that’s the next logical jump. My own personal take on the app - this provides a lot of useful information, but I still find it strange that Nintendo doesn’t offer up more specific times, especially seeing that the Nintendo Switch Online app shows gameplay times in increments of one hour at a time. Again, there is a lot of useful information for over a decade worth of gameplay data as long as you had your Nintendo account connected to your devices. As another note, the app will display the language that is tied to your My Nintendo Account. You can see screenshots (in Japanese) at the bottom of this article.
The original topic page announcing the app in 2020.
The My Nintendo app originally released on iOS and Android in Japan on April 21, 2020. The app has evolved over time, but has still offered mainly the same functionally as is seen today. We covered the app on our podcast (The Famicast 172, timestamp 01:28:37) back in late April 2020 and have an article here on the site about the “Recent Play” update to it back in December 2021. You can read more about that here. Be sure to download the app for some insights into your gameplay history and more.
