Tomonobu Itagaki (Dead or Alive, Ninja Gaiden 2004) Passes Away

Tomonobu Itagaki has passed away at the age of 58. Itagaki had a career in the gaming industry that spanned over thirty years where he served as a director for the Dead or Alive series, the head of Team Ninja for multiple Ninja Gaiden titles, the director for Devil’s Third and more. Many prominent figures in the gaming industry paid tribute to Itagaki on social media after hearing of his pass on Thursday, October 16. One of note is a lengthy message posted from executive producer of the Tekken series, Katsuhiro Harada in which he details his relationship with Itagaki. You can read about that in Harada’s tweet here.

Itagaki’s final message to his fans was posted on Facebook and reads as follows:

"My life has been a series of battles. I kept winning. I have caused a lot of trouble, too. I am proud to say that I followed my beliefs and fought to the end. I have no regrets. However, I am filled with regret that I was unable to deliver a new work to all my fans. I am sorry. That's how it is. So it goes.”

Rest in peace, Itagaki-san.
