Square Enix delivered on offering another great booth experience for fans at Tokyo Game Show 2025. They brought a solid lineup of games, had some great photo spots, looks at upcoming merch and more. Not only that, but they gave fans in Japan a chance to check out several games of the first time on Switch 2, ROG Xbox Ally X and more. Let’s get into the games and everything else in between. Here we go.
Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade on ROG Xbox Ally X
Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade was in the house at the TGS 2025 Square Enix booth on both the Nintendo Switch 2 and the ROG Xbox Ally X. Of course, being mainly a Nintendo focused channel, I was hoping to try out the game on the Switch 2. Unfortunately for me, Square Enix just filters folks in to whichever demo unit is available. After about an hour and a half wait, I got in to play the game on the ROG Xbox Ally X. I was a bit disappointed at first, but it was a great chance to check out this new handheld for myself. As for the form factor, the first thing I noticed was how massive it was. I don’t have small hands, per se, but the system just seemed to be way too big for what I look for in a handheld device. Even with that said, FFVII Remake ran very nicely on this new hardware.
There were a few options with the demo - you could start from the beginning of the game, explore a section of Midgar, or take on the game’s first boss, the Scorpion Sentinel, which is what I chose. I probably should have stuck with one of the other two options to take in the game’s visuals, but I could still get a good idea of what to expect on Microsoft’s new handheld. Character models were extremely detailed, the lighting effects were great and the environment looked fantastic. The game did appear to be running at 30 frames per second, which might disappoint some. Still, the ROG Xbox Ally X is a legit way to experience the game and I’m glad I got to experience it. How the system will fare in Japan is another story. Given the size of the device, the high asking price (especially compared to the Switch 2) and the general unfamiliarity with the Xbox brand, the system is going to be a hard sell in Japan regardless of its technical prowess.
Fans that checked out Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade on the show floor could receive an exclusive card case for Magic the Gathering cards. It wasn’t the greatest freebie I’ve ever received from a game demo, but it’s an interesting novelty to add to my collection.
Dragon Quest VII: Reimagined
Unfortunately, Dragon Quest VII: Reimagined was not playable on the TGS 2025 show floor. Even with that said, Square Enix did bring two really awesome things along to share with the fans - the Collector’s Edition of the game AND the figurines that were used to created the in-game models for the game. The collector’s edition is pretty impressive itself offering the game, a Smile Slime Plush, a SteelBook case, and a Ship in a Bottle featuring all of the main characters. The real star of this segment of the booth, though, are the figurines. It’s incredible just how much detail went into these. Not only that, these were quite a bit larger than I imagined, probably roughly a foot (30 cm) tall or so. It was just crazy to go from seeing the trailer for the game a few weeks before the show to then seeing the physical creations right in front of my face. Seriously, these were fantastic.

Of course, the company did end up showing DQVII Reimagined off on stage during the show and it looks super impressive. I really like the visual style the game brings to the table as it’s quite unique when compared to other titles in the series. I’m not sure if I’ll pick it up at launch, but I do like what I see up to this point.
Dragon Quest Coffee, Tactical Photo Spots & More
On top of these two pretty big titles from the company, several other games were also present on the show floor including Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D, Final Fantasy Tactics, The Adventures of Elliot and a few others. On top of the games, the booth had other highlights, including free “Boss Quest” Dragon Quest III themed canned coffee, and photo spots Tactics, Final Fantasy XIV (a huge chocobo, and a meet and greet with the Dragon Lord. It was fun booth and always filled to the brim with people when I was there.
Conclusion
Square Enix had another great booth at Tokyo Game Show 2025. There were both a variety of games and attractions for fans of the company’s deep library of games to enjoy. I was really glad to check out Final Fantasy VII Remake and to also get a super up close and personal look at the Dragon Quest VII: Reimagined figurines. Seriously, those things were awesome. The rest of 2025 leading into 2026 is shaping up very to be exciting for Square Enix fans.
But, let’s turn things over to you. What do you think about Final Fantasy VII: Remake Intergrade on the ROG Xbox Ally? How about on the Switch? Are you looking forward to Dragon Quest VII: Reimagined? Sound off in the comments down below. We’d love to hear from you.
