Live Action Zelda Movie Officially in the Works

The Legend of Zelda is coming to the big screen. Nintendo officially announced that they are teaming up with Avi Arad’s (producer on Spiderman: Across the Spider-verse, Morbius) Arad Productions Inc. and Sony Pictures Entertainment to bring the project to life. Shigeru Miyamoto will be on the project as producer with Wes Ball (Maze Runner) coming on as director. The film will be co-financed by both Nintendo and Sony, with Sony taking handling theatrical distribution. Of course, with this being the preliminary stages of the movie, there is no release date at this time.
Shigeru Miyamoto went on to say (on X via Nintendo’s official account): “I have been working on the live-action film of The Legend of Zelda for many years now with Avi Arad-san, who has produced many mega hit films. I have asked Avi-san to produce this film with me, and we have now officially started the development of the film with Nintendo itself heavily involved in the production. It will take time until its completion, but I hope you look forward to seeing it.”

Miyamoto, 70,  was heavily involved in the making of The Super Mario Bros. Movie alongside Illumination which saw great success at the box office earlier this year. Nintendo’s PR went on to say:

“By producing visual contents of Nintendo IP by itself, Nintendo is creating new opportunities to have people from around the world to access the world of entertainment which Nintendo has built, through different means apart from its dedicated game consoles.

By getting deeply involved in the movie production with the aim to put smiles on everyone’s faces through entertainment, Nintendo will continue its efforts to produce unique entertainment and deliver it to as many people as possible.”
