Nintendo 3DS and Wii U eShops Closing in 2023

Purchases via the Nintendo eShop on both the Nintendo 3DS and Wii U are set to be closed down completely in late March 2023. This will be take effect in all regions. Last month on January 18, the ability to add funds to the Wii U and 3DS eShops via credit cards in Japan was removed. For now, gamers can still add funds via pre-paid download cards until August 29/30 (depending on your region). It will still be possible to redeem download codes or use a shared balance via a connected My Nintendo account until the late March 2023 cutoff. It will still be possible to re-download games and DLC, receive updates and play online games with the Wii U and 3DS for “the foreseeable future.”

The Wii U and Nintendo 3DS software pages are still up and running in Japan. If you’re interested to see more about Japan exclusive Wii U or 3DS titles, be sure to check out our Top Japan Only Wii U Titles article or our Top Japan 3DS Titles article.
